Kant & Wal

Kant & Wal created space for strangers to meet without an agenda. In the bridge keeper’s house at the Schoenkuipenbrug in Zwolle, two people who had never met spent an hour together, suspended between sky and water, one bank and the other.

The idea was simple: whoever we meet, there is always something that connects us.

Twice a week for six weeks, participants became temporary bridge keepers. They recorded their encounter in a shared logbook and were photographed with a Polaroid. Each then invited someone new to take their place the following week, creating a growing chain of encounters.

A bridge usually helps us move on. Here, it invited us to stay a little longer.

Between
sky and water,
bank and shore.
No one’s land.

Land of no one,
of everyone.
Where everything meets
and must move on.

Water and sky.
Shore and bank.
You and I.
